What do we really know about human history? Much of ancient history was recorded by scribes who worked for the king. Their job was not necessarily to record history as it took place, but to make the king look good. Much of the West's history has, for over a century, viewed man as traveling from a primitive state to a much more sophisticated and technological state. But actual history challenges this view.
Take, for example, the Anasazi Indians, whose center of civilization seems to have been in the Chaco Canyon area of New Mexico. They are thought to have flourished about 1,000 years ago, and they built hundreds of miles of roads leading from all directions to the canyon. The roads are straight and always about 27 feet wide. The so called North Road runs straight north for over 30 miles.
But even more impressive are the nine Great Houses they built. One was at least five stories tall, covered three acres, and had 650 rooms! These houses were built of millions of cut sandstone blocks. The floors of the Great Houses required the Anasazis to haul 215,000 trees averaging almost 9 inches in diameter and weighing 600 pounds 50 miles from the forested mountains! Yet, this sophisticated, hard working civilization has disappeared without a trace.
Our knowledge of man's early history is not as complete as we are often led to believe. But we can trust the history that is presented in the Bible.
